Memorial University (Memorial) is a world-renowned institution of higher learning located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The Memorial University of Newfoundland is a comprehensive university located in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. St. John’s is the capital and largest city of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is on the eastern tip of the Avalon Peninsula on the large Canadian island, Newfoundland. The city spans 446.04 square kilometers and had a population of 102,300 in the 2016 Census. St. John’s was historically the commercial capital of Newfoundland and conversely, today is the economic centre of Newfoundland and Labrador. Its nickname is “The Rock”, a reference to its geography as an island off the coast of North America. memorials, cemeteries, parks, and other public spaces that commemorate the lives lost in conflicts from the eighteenth century to today. The Signal Hill Tattoo commemorates the Battle of Signal Hill, which took place on September 15, 1762 during the Seven Years’ War. The Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial is a memorial to Newfoundlanders who served in World War I, particularly those who were killed at Beaumont-Hamel on July 1, 1916 during the Battle of the Somme; over 800 men from Newfoundland were killed that day, almost one-quarter of those who served overseas. The National War Memorial is dedicated to all Newfoundlanders who have served in wars and peacekeeping missions since Confederation in 1949
