Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the program for?

Students who are in grade 9-12, taking a gap year, or first year university students who are looking to get accepted to top universities & secure funding. All students that are studying in Canada, including permanent residents, are eligible.

What is the consultation for?

The consultation will give you and your child an idea of where they can get admitted based on their resume, academics, and experience.

We will review your child’s experience and goals and create an action-based plan for your family to use to succeed as your child enters their senior years.

If your child is a good fit for GrantMe, and they’re the type of student who we can get great results with, then we will also share what GrantMe’s program looks like & the tuition fee to join our programs.

Will I be charged for the consultation?

No. The call is complimentary and it is designed to give you and your child a clear plan and an idea of the opportunities available to them. If your child is a fit for our consulting programs and we think that we can help them achieve results, then we will let you know. If that’s the case, we will go over the tuition to get started. If we’re not a fit for you, we’ll be up front about that and let you know.

How are parents involved in this process?

When families sign up to work with us, they will attend an Action Plan Session with their assigned Student Account Specialist (SAM) who will review parental involvement, student expectations, the program and support, as well as set goals with your family to work towards in each session after that. SAMs make sure that our students stay on track and progress according to the goals set out in their initial Action Plan. They are also responsible for liaising with the family—sending meeting reports to parents, ensuring that all lines of communication are open, and resolving any issues that arise quickly. Applying and attending university is a big family decision that we respect and treat with the utmost compassion, care, and attention.

Can I pick my child's Student Account Manager?

Our Student Account Managers have expertise in specific areas, and students are assigned based on their goals and the support a SAM can provide them. We use the information we learn about our students on the consultation call to get a sense of their goals, interests, and personalities to match them to a SAM that is the best fit. If students and families have specific requests, we will do our best to accommodate them!

How do you keep track of all your students' progress?

We have a number of systems in place to ensure that our students are on track and progressing towards their goals. Consistent one-to-one meetings with a Student Account Manager are the best way to stay on track, and our SAMs will always check-in with students via email and at the end each call, students will be booked in for their next one-to-one. Additionally, our online platform allows us to oversee a student’s progress as they work through submitting applications and essays, applying to scholarships, attending workshops and one-to-ones, and checking items off of their Tasks list. Parents have access to the Parent Portal to view this progress this as well.

My child is not passionate about anything. How can you help him/her stand out?

We work with a diverse group of students, including those who are already passionate and focused, those who are passionate but not necessarily focused, those who are overly passionate and focused, those who have a variety of interests but lack a true passion, and even those who have yet to discover their interests. This is a common scenario, especially among younger high school students who have yet to identify their passions and specific interests.

Our objective is to help these students identify their areas of interest and potential, and turn those into meaningful accomplishments that will set them apart. The process of doing this is tailored to each student and can be different from one to the next, but the ultimate goal is to find what truly inspires and motivates them.

We advise our students to take an exploratory and experimental approach to their interests. To start, we suggest they try simple activities, such as reading a book or article, watching a related documentary, visiting a museum, joining a student club, or attending a lecture or class that is not part of their regular curriculum. The goal of this exercise is to see if they have a genuine interest in the subject matter.

We encourage our students to focus on 2-4 interests rather than just one. Narrowing their focus to just one area may limit their potential, while pursuing too many interests at once can detract from their ability to achieve excellence in any one.

We understand that many students may feel pressure to quickly commit to a particular field and become passionate about it, even if they are not sure if they will enjoy it. Our approach removes this pressure, allowing them to evolve and grow their interests over time.
