Every year millions of dollars in grants and scholarships are left on the table because students don’t bother to look for them.

But, it can be rewarding if you try… The website GrantMe.ca says the average university student graduates with $26,000 debt. It’s why students should be trying to take advantage of scholarships and grants, but many don’t.

To pay her way through the University of British Columbia where she captained the women’s soccer team, Madison Guy, founder of GrantMe, went through an exhausting process of finding and applying for grants and scholarships. In 2018 she launched GrantMe to help other students find funding. She has connected students with a total of $3 million in scholarships to date.

A scholarship can make a huge impact on a student’s life. Yet every year, millions of dollars go unclaimed.

“There’s a lot of misinformation about scholarships,” says Madison Guy, who founded the online scholarships hub GrantMe in 2017. “Students don’t even know what they’re eligible for, or what they should be applying to.”
