Guelph General Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for Canadian high school students who want to go to the University of Guelph differ per province. Check out the list below to learn about the requirements for your province!

For Ontario High School Students

The general admission requirements for high school students from Ontario are as follow:

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
• A minimum of six 4U and/or 4M courses (The non-academic component of  4U or 4M Co-op courses is not accepted as a contribution to admission requirements.)
• Specific subject requirements for your chosen degree program
• ENG4U (required for all degree programs)

The official application deadline is March 1. Or, you can apply by January 15 if you wish to be considered for early admission.

The deadline for all supporting documents, including official transcripts, for all students not currently enrolled in secondary school, is April 15, unless otherwise stated. The deadline for all official grades to be submitted by your school to the OUAC is April 22.

For Quebec High School Students

Applicants from Québec must present the following:

• Current grade results
• Senior High School Leaving Certificate
• 12 academic credits from an appropriate CEGEP Program + required subjects
• Specific subject requirements for your chosen degree program

You should submit your most current grade results to Admission Services by April 15 to receive an admission decision in May (except for those taking Turfgrass Management).

Make the necessary arrangements to have your school submit an official transcript showing completed Grade 11 and completed or in-progress Grade 12 courses on your behalf.

You need to present your Senior High School Leaving Certificate plus 12 academic credits from an appropriate CEGEP program (minimum one year at a CEGEP), including required subjects. The University of Guelph will be using the highest grade reported for any repeated courses.

For High School Students from the Other Provinces

For applicants from provinces outside of Ontario and Quebec, your general admission requirements are as follows:

• Current grades
• Completed requirements for HS diploma + specific course requirements at the G12 academic level
• Specific subject requirements for your chosen degree program (You need to click your province of residence first before you can access the specific subject requirements.)

You should arrange to have the most current grade results sent to Admission Services by April 15 to receive an admission decision by May. You must complete all requirements for your secondary school graduation diploma, including specific subject requirements at the Grade 12 academic level.

Guelph Degree Specific Requirements

Each program maintains its specific requirements for entry, and each requirement will vary depending on your residence. You can refer to your program of choice to see these requirements.

For example:

Economics

1. For Ontario
   • English
   • 5 additional courses, like Advanced Functions (MHF4U)
   • Estimated Cut-off Ranges: 75-80% for all majors except Criminal Justice and Public Policy (79-83%) and Psychology (80-85%)
2. Québec
   • English 12
   • 5 additional academic Grade 12 courses
   • Estimated Cut-off Ranges: 75-80% for all majors except Criminal Justice and Public Policy and Psychology (80-85%)
3. All other provinces
   • English 30-1
   • 4 additional courses numbered 30 or 31 with a weight of 5
   • Estimated Cut-off Ranges: 75-80% for all majors except Criminal Justice and Public Policy and Psychology (80-85%)

The University of Guelph will treat courses previously completed through Summer School, Night School, or Correspondence in the same manner as those completed through day school. They will be counted equally in determining your admission average.

The University of Guelph will be using the highest grade reported for any repeated courses.
