Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Noordeep Cheema, most people call me Noor. I am 17 years old and going in to the first year of university. I’m really excited to start my journey with GrantMe as soon as possible!
What scholarship did you win?
I won the GrantMe Dream Careers Scholarship. That was the first scholarship that I applied to on the day that I actually got into GrantMe. I was really excited because it took a little bit longer than I thought it would but I was really excited that I got the scholarship! It was pretty worth it because it was $250 and with that I could buy some books with my university!
How was your writing process and what did you learn throughout that process?
So GrantMe has really great editors, and they’re really motivating. They don’t change the essence of your essay but they edit it to reach the word limit, and to be concise with the prompt. The editors make really great progress with the essays. They structure it with the STAR Method and look into every aspect of it.
How do you manage your time?
The main thing I do is that when I have to plan what I do, I plan my whole week, rather than my daily goals. When I plan my weekly goals, that helps me have a sense of what Im going to do towards the week. In my daily goals, if I’m writing an essay, I take 1-2 hours out of my day to work on that essay. And I work on it completely, without distractions. I use the Pomodoro App, and listen to some calming music. That’s my technique to manage my time.
What plans do you have for the future?
I’m going to Ryerson University for Aerospace Engineering. It’ll be my first year and I’m super excited to meet new people! Women in STEM is an issue that we’re having right now, and women are represented very less, especially in Aerospace. I was always inclined space, and Astronomy since I was young. That kind of prompted me to go into that field as well!
