If you are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour (BIPOC), there are lots of opportunities available for you to win scholarships! To help you start your scholarship process, here are 7 of the top scholarships for BIPOC students in Canada.

1. Indspire
Indspire is the largest scholarship fund available for Indigenous students in Canada! This unique platform allows you to complete one application to apply for all of the Indspire scholarships. They also have three deadlines throughout the year. Thankfully, this means it’s never too late to apply. With millions of dollars available, there’s bound to be a scholarship for you! 2. Black Canadian Scholarship Fund
If you’re a Black student in Ottawa, this is the scholarship for you! The Ottawa Community Foundation offers the award annually. The fund strives to encourage academic excellence and promote community leadership for outstanding Black youth in Ottawa. Applications are due in June each year. 3. Jean Lumb Awards
The Jean Lumb Foundation offers 15 annual scholarships to Grade 12 students of Chinese heritage. The award is offered in honour of Jean Lumb, the first Chinese-Canadian woman to receive the Order of Canada for her tireless community work. Scholarships are offered to students who achieve excellence in one (or more) of 7 areas. These include academics, the arts, athletics, community service, defense of the environment, dignity of life, and innovation. Each award is worth $1,000. 4. Overwaitea Joint Diversity
If you plan on studying on BC and have demonstrated leadership in your community, add this scholarship to your list! The Overwaitea Joint Diversity scholarship is offered to students who promote diversity awareness and acceptance in their community. They award ten scholarships valued at $1,000 every year. Be sure to visit their website and submit your application before May!
5. RBC Capital Markets Diversity Scholarship
One of the best scholarships for BIPOC students pursuing a career in banking or finance is the RBC Capital Markets Diversity Scholarship! Up to 8 scholarships for BIPOC students are available, each valued at $5,000. They also encourage women, 2SLGBT+ folks, veterans, and persons with disabilities to apply. In addition to the funds, the scholarship also includes a summer job, mentorship, and coaching opportunities. Visit their website to learn how to apply!
6. CN’s Diversity Scholarship Program
Each year, CN offers $3,000 scholarships for BIPOC students! Like the RBC scholarship, they also encourage women, persons with disabilities, and military veterans to apply. Students must be pursuing a degree relevant to CN’s core business. This includes engineering, transportation, sales & marketing, human resources, Aboriginal studies & law, and accounting & finance. 7. GrantMe BIPOC Scholarship
Last on the list is the newly created GrantMe BIPOC Scholarship! This award seeks to support students who show commitment to strengthening their communities—whether that is through celebrating your identity, overcoming personal challenges, or engaging in leadership work. The award is open to any student in Grade 9 to 12 or post-secondary. The $1,000 scholarship is offered two times a year, so it’s never too late to apply!
