Western Civil Engineering Courses: Overview

Western Civil Engineering courses prepare students for a wide range of careers in the planning, design, construction, and operation of infrastructure systems. Students learn about a broad range of topics, including structural analysis and design, hydraulics and hydrology, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering. In addition, students gain practical experience through labs and projects. As a result of their coursework, graduates are prepared to work in a variety of fields, such as construction management, consulting engineering, and land development. Western Civil Engineering Courses
There are a number of different Western civil engineering courses available, each of which focuses on a specific aspect of the field. After completing Western Engineering’s Common First Year, you can enroll in the Civil Engineering program.
The Common First-Year Courses include:
- Applied Mathematics – Calculus
- Applied Mathematics – Linear Algebra
- Business for Engineers
- Chemistry
- Computer Programming Fundamentals
- Foundations of Engineering Practice
- Physics
- Properties of Materials
- Statics
Upon completing the first year, students may apply to the Civil Engineering program. In your third year of study, you will have the opportunity to choose one of the following options: Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or International Development with Structural or Environmental Engineering.
The 2nd year Civil Engineering courses you can take are:
- CEE 2202a – Mechanics of Materials
- CEE 2217a – Introduction to Environmental Engineering
- CEE 2219b – Computational Tools for Civil Engineers
- CEE 2220a – Introduction to Structural Engineering
- CEE 2221b – Structural Theory & Design
- CEE 2224 – Engineering Fluid Mechanics
