Queen’s Chernoff Family Award: Overview

Queen’s offers several Entrance Awards to exceptional students entering their first year of study. These awards are made possible through the generous support of their donors, and the awards recognize academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement.

To be considered for a Queen’s Entrance Award, students must submit a completed Queen’s Undergraduate Admission Application by December 1st for September entry. There are several automatic entrance awards, but students also have the opportunity to apply for major entrance awards such as the Queen’s Chernoff Family Award. Keep reading to learn more!

The Queen’s Chernoff Family Award

Queen’s Chernoff Family Award is an annual award that recognizes a Queen’s University student who has made an exceptional contribution to their community. The award was established in 1998 by the Chernoff Family, which includes Mr. Michael N. Chernoff, B.Sc. (Eng.) 1959, Mrs. Dorine (Dennison) Chernoff, B.A., Manitoba, Ms. Catherine Chernoff, B. of Architecture, Texas, and Mr. M. Bruce Chernoff, B.Sc. (Eng.) 1987. The awards recognize and are in memory of Nick and Maud Chernoff, Michael’s parents and are supported by an endowment fund. The awarding of the award is overseen by a committee of faculty, staff, and students. The recipient of the award is chosen based on their community involvement, leadership, and overall impact on the Queen’s and Kingston communities.

The recipient is awarded $48,000-$60,000, and there are up to 11 recipients annually. Queen’s University is dedicated to providing opportunities for all students to pursue their academic goals.
