Financial-Need Based Assitance at McGill
McGill’s need-based financial aid program includes need-based grants/bursaries, loans, and work studies. McGill provides a number of special financial aid programs for students with unique circumstances, such as students with disabilities, low income, international students, and Indigenous students.
For example, McGill’s Entrance Bursary Program offers entrance bursaries to students from low to modest-income families who demonstrate financial need.
These bursaries range in value, and the award amounts will be determined by:
- the level of need demonstrated by the student and their family, relative to other applicants
- the tuition fee rate charged based on the program of study and student residency
To apply to most McGill financial aid programs, you can fill out the application available on Minerva once you are accepted to the university.
For more information about McGill University’s financial need-based program, please visit McGill’s website or contact McGill’s Office of Student Financial Aid.
McGill Admission Awards
McGill University offers a variety of merit-based entrance awards to help students offset the cost of tuition. Awards are based on academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement, and range from $3000 to $12,000. The application process for entrance awards is competitive, and selection is based on the strength of the applicant’s file.
Some of these awards are granted automatically with admission depending on your high school transcripts, and other major entrance scholarships may require students to submit a completed application form, official transcripts, and letters of recommendation.
Certain faculties at McGill also offer their own faculty-specific entrance scholarships. These faculties include Music, Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences, Law and Medicine. Consult individual faculty websites and admissions offices for more information!
If you are awarded an entrance scholarship and still require funding for your studies at McGill, you should consider:
- Government Aid
- McGill’s Work Study Program
- McGill’s financial aid (loans & bursaries)
Additionally, numerous external awards are also available every year from a host of associations, corporations, organizations, and foundations! For more information on entrance awards and the application process, please visit the McGill website.
