Acceptance Rate

The University of Alberta’s acceptance rate is 58%. This means that, while the school may be competitive, it is still not very difficult for you to be accepted if you’re prepared! However, different departments have their own various acceptance rates for their programs, so make sure to research your program of choice carefully.

If you haven’t already, we strongly encourage you to apply as early as possible to give yourself the best chance of receiving an admission offer. If you are in high school, you can apply as early as October 1 of your Grade 12 year, using your final Grade 11 marks, as well as any available Grade 12 marks.

Application Assessment

Most Canadian high school applications will be assessed within 1-2 weeks, assuming you have submitted enough relevant information. Other types of applications can take longer to process.

Admission Offers

Most admission offers are made before April 1st; however, every applicant is unique and every enrollment cycle is unique, applications are assessed on an ongoing basis. This creates an opportunity to adjust what is considered ‘a competitive application‘ throughout the admissions period (October 1 – August 31) based on a variety of factors, including:

  • The number of qualified applicants to a particular program,
  • The averages presented by applicants that year, and
  • Program capacity.

To be considered for admission, applicants need to:

  • Have the required courses for their program
  • Meet the minimum requirements for their program
  • Fill out a complete application for admission with their application fee

Applicants who are not accepted into their first-choice program will be assessed for their second-choice program if listed.

Dates and Deadlines

Here are some key dates and deadlines for your application process.

Waiting for an acceptance offer can be a nail-biting experience, so let’s talk about what you can do once you’ve applied to keep updated!
