How to get into Trent University | Ultimate University Guide

Are you considering attending Trent University for your post secondary education? Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about how to get into Trent University!
Before we get started, let’s go over a little bit about where Trent is and what you need to do before applying. Trent has 2 campuses, one in Peterborough Ontario and one in the Durham GTA region of Oshawa. Because these campuses are in Ontario, you will need to register for an OUAC account (Ontario University Application Centre) in order to apply to Trent University. So let’s get started!
Trent University Regular Admission Requirements:
If you’re applying as an Ontario Secondary School student, meaning you are presently attending a high school in Ontario, or have graduated from one, this is what you will need to get into Trent University.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
- A minimum of six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses, including program specific prerequisites
- A minimum 70% overall final average
- ENG 4U with a minimum of 60%

Trent also has a large community of students who attend Trent University from provinces other than Ontario. Each province/territory has their own set of requirements, so let’s break it down! (Be sure to contact Trent if you have any questions about their acceptance policies or admission requirements)
Provincial Admission Requirements:
- AlbertaEnglish 30-1 plus four academic 30 or 31 courses
- British ColumbiaEnglish 12 plus three academic grade 12 courses. Provincial exams not required
- ManitobaEnglish 40S plus four grade 12 courses at S or U level
- New BrunswickEnglish 121 or 122 four academic grade 12 courses.
- **Newfoundland/Labrador-**Ten credits at the 3000 level including English 3201 (2 credits)
- Northwest TerritoriesEnglish 30-1 plus four other academic 30 or 31 courses
- Nova ScotiaEnglish 12 plus four academic or advanced grade 12 courses
- NunavutEnglish 30-1 plus four academic 30 or 31 courses
- Prince Edward IslandEnglish 621 or 611 plus four academic and/or advanced courses at the 600 level
- QuebecCEGEP-English 603 plus eleven academic credits
- SaskatchewanOne 30-level English plus four academic grade 12 courses at level 30
- YukonEnglish 12 plus three academic grade

Trent University – Advanced Placement Requirements
All applicants who have completed Advanced Placement exams from the College Board are required to submit their examination results for evaluation. Transfer credit will be granted for most Advanced Placement courses with examination grades of four (4) or better, to a maximum of 5.0 credits (one full year of study).

The admission average for CEGEP applicants is calculated on the top 12 academic course grades, including either Eng 603 or 604. A minimum admission average of 70% is required for admission. For many programs, a higher admission average is required.
Students who have successfully completed two years of full-time study at CEGEP may be eligible for transfer credit to a maximum of 5.0 credits (equivalent to one year of full-time study) depending on the overall academic average or the recommendations of the appropriate departments at Trent University. Your transfer credits will be assessed automatically if you are given an offer of admission to Trent and they can consider academic courses with a final grade of 70% or higher.

English Language Requirements
Trent is an English language university and it is important to your success at Trent that you are proficient in both spoken and written English. All students must demonstrate a command of English sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instruction, written assignments, and participation in tutorials and discussions.
Applicants whose first language is not English are normally required to submit proof of English proficiency meeting or exceeding the following test results.
Trent University Degree Specific Requirements
As we mentioned above, certain degrees have additional requirements, so let’s take a look at a few popular courses:
Arts and Science: Minimum 75% overall average and 4U Math
Computer Science/Computing Systems:
Minimum 80% average for Co-op; Only B.Sc. available for Co-op; Applicant Essay for Co-op due February 1st
Conservation Biology Co-op:
ENG4U, MHF4U or MCV4U, SCH4U and SBI4U with a combined minimum average of 75%
75% overall average. Minimum of 70% in ENG4U, SBI4U, SCH4U and a 4U Math. Admission average is calculated on required courses, including ENG4U plus your next two best 4U/M courses. All applicants are required to complete the CASPer test.
